Bird Strike @ EGCC

Apparently a thompsonfly Boeing 757-204 plane hit a bird on take off at Manchester Airport today, catching fire to the starboard engine.... pilots had to shut it down, circle for 45mins and then landed safely.

Was caught on video and recorded by a spotter... no postings on the net yet but was an awesome clip when it was shown on BBC news on telly earlier.

Here's a question for those on this forum from the UK.

How does the BBC get away with avoiding any violations of the Wireless Telegraphy Acts of 1949 and 2004? It would seem to some people that they would be violating the same laws that restrict people here from putting up any UK feeds.

Any insights into this?

The BBC was given a Royal Charter in 1927 - and is not run by the government, as many people think.

Even though the BBC still has a close relationship with the government, does anyone think the government would prosecute the BBC?  I seriously doubt it.

The second video is way better.  I wonder what the guy sitting over the wing thought when he saw flames shooting out of the engine.  But it is intresting to watch and hear what they do about that kind of stuff.  A friend and I were in a Cessna 150 just out of Y72 and we almost hit a Redtailed Hawk.  It was a cool looking bird, but it would of be bad to hit it in that small of a plane.

And nice job to everyone that was involved in the incident.
