Hi all .Newbie listener in N.Ireland here.I've just discovered this brilliant site within the last 15 minutes and on reading this thread I can only agree with the general concensus that in this day and age, broadcasting live ATC should be illegal.I can now monitor Dublin and Shannon,Ireland constantly now, and as Danny stated,Glasgow ATC has been available for some time now although I feel that this guy is broadcasting illegally and will continue only until someone blows the whistle on him.
Question for you.
Why do you think this should be illegal? In other words, what justifications do you have for your reasoning that this should be illegal? A lot of us here are either real world controllers, participate in a virtual environment, or are enthusiasts who happen to have a chance to hear their heroes do their best work and enjoy what they hear. There is no spying, or any sort of intelligence to be gathered listening to ATC; in fact, if the UK is like everywhere else in the world, your GST/taxes are paying for the system you think is illegal! Wouldn't you think if you're paying someone else to do a job for you, such as handle a plane in the air that you or your family might be flying on, that you would be entitled (or since it is your money, your right) to have some quality assurance done?
Not all of us are fortunate enough to live near an airport so we could go there and listen in with a scanner and want to hear how it is done in other countries. Not to spark a political debate, but it is rather shocking that the UK is still rather far behind with this (going on 59 years), while everyone else has passed them on by.
So enlighten us. Why do you think, outside of "it's the law", that setting up a feed for somewhere in the UK should be illegal?
