Callsign question JFK

Im thinking that you may be hearing 'PD' they are New York Police helicopters if im not mistaken, based either near or at Floyd Bennett field, happy to be corrected if this info is wrong.

You are correct, Mark.  Those are helicopters checking into the JFK airspace using the call sign "P.D." (for Police Department) for daily assignments.

When I fly out of KSCH (Schenectady Co., NY), we routinely have to dodge...

Grey Wolf (I think it's wolf...might be "Fox"), which are the NY State Police aircraft (I THINK the ones that give you the tickets from the air on the freeways)

and

"Skier" for the Air National Guard C-130 cargo planes that are stationed there.  They have "coverings" that look like skis around the wheels.

Those "coverings" are skis.  They are the only unit in the USAF to fly missions to Antarctica and land on the ice.

It should be Gray Rider.   That is the callsign used to the New York State Police helicopter that is based in Syracuse, NY, and the only "Gray..." listed in the FAA's telephony document that references the state police  (scroll down in this link to see it).

They are Helicopters because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram.

Here's another KJFK callsign question.  There is an airline using A340s with the callsign of "Spring Bach."  Not sure if the spelling is correct, but that is what it sound like.  Any ideas?
