?Chicago Feeds?
« on: January 02, 2005, 09:21:08 PM »
Hey, everybody

I happened to find your site today while surfing airliners.net and noticed that you did not have a Chicago feed, I live about 25 mile from KORD and was wondering if it is possible to get reception this far away and if so you you be interested in a feed?

If so I will think about setting one up provided the response is favorable.

Thanks

There was another thread with someone in the same predicament (Chicago and >25mi. away).

Even with a decent antenna, more than likely you're only going to hear the pilot side of the conversation.  Forget about ground freqs.

If you have the equipment on hand, see what you can and cannot pick up.

Which direction from ORD are you?  Depending on which part, there's always Midway, Palwaukee, Dupage, Waukegan, etc.

You might be a little far from Ohare...I would try DuPage...what a great airport.  I know of a website that has LiveATC there, but take a shot at it if you feel right!!

I would love some DPA

Are those calculations Driving miles, by seeing I-190?!?! Calculate by air miles. In a straight line to each airport. How is the terrain near you?

Dupage would be cool.  I'm guessing you'd probably be able to pick up some Chicago Approach frequencies, I'd guess with both controllers and pilots, not sure though.  That may be another option.  High altitude freqs over Chicago are extremely busy also and would be another option.

According to yahoo they are air miles, and the terrain is relatively flat although I live on what could be considered a "hill" in the midwest.

So by the sound of it, you guys/gals would like to have a dupage airport feed?

DuPage would be great!

Here are the published frequencies (courtesy of AirNav.com):

DUPAGE GROUND:    121.8
DUPAGE TOWER:    120.9 257.8 124.5
CHICAGO APPROACH:    133.5
CHICAGO DEPARTURE:    133.5
CLEARANCE DELIVERY:    119.75

And check this page to see if you are close enough to any of the ZAU (Chicago Center) ground transmitters:

Hey local. I fly out of DPA on the weekends with a (rented) Cessna 172. I would host DPA/ORD but my radio is not powerful enough.

I can pick up ORD with some level of static from my house in the aurora/Naperville area..

I know cyberair.com live streams CHicago/app/gnd.

where abouts are you?
