Controller trash talking SWA
« on: February 21, 2008, 12:55:06 AM »
I was flying today talking to NY approach and overheard a southwest pilot complaining about a routing ther got into Islip (Long Island, NY)  that added 10 mins flying time.  The controller (who was pretty cranky) said the routing was based on the runway JFK was using.  A minute later the controller asked, "Since when does your company's crappy boarding procedure not let children board first."  I would have loved to find it in the archives and posted it but I guess there's no feed.  It's generally an interesting frequency (118.0) with lots of training activity and controlleres with a lot of character.  It also covers the charlie airspace around Islip.  If anyone can add it as a feed, that'd be rad.

Islip and 118.00 *are* fed to this site:   http://audio.liveatc.net:8012/kisp.m3u

Unfortunately, there are also some center frequencies monitored there as well, which makes the probability of this particular exchange being captured in the archives pretty low.

What date and local time did you hear this exchange?

most controllers I think like southwest...they taxi extremely fast, they are always ready to go and get out of your airspace. I never had a problem with them.

NYApp controllers are the greatest. Whenever I go flying I love the sarcasm I can get from a controller. That's why I love NY haha.

I recently had a conversation with a controller on 118.0 coming off of ISP that went something like this.

"NY Departure, Cessna ##### passing 500 for 2000"
"Cessna ### Radar contact whatcha lookin' for tonight?"
"We'd like an ILS-24 at Westhampton, with the full transition from Calverton."
"And then?"
"And then we'd like a GPS 24 at Brookhaven."
"And then?"
"Annnnd then we'll take it back to Islip, ILS-24."
"And then?"
"Full stop."
"OK ### right turn 360 radar vectors through the charlie. Climb maintain 3000 and VFR"

I was cracking for a good minute or so!

i found the clip and put it in the other forum.  the link above works.  mjohn, i know the controller you're talking about.  he's one of the good ones.  i've flown all over the country and the NY controllers are the best by far
