Hi everybody.

I'm planning on setting up my own feed...and Im interested in rigging up an antenna on my roof to increase the reception/range.

Ive read through many threads in the forum and its quite clear that a J-Pole antenna is one of the best to rig up. However, I've been told that this other antenna...called a Diamond F22 (http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/4129) is much better than the typical J-Pole antenna.

What are your views on it? How does it compare with a J-Pole antenna in terms of range, power usage etc.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

From what people have told me, it works better in certain situations... Some aspects are better, and some are worse.

I think overall the diamond will be better, but you might not want to spend $100 compared to $15. Thats why I bought a Jpole  grin

Instead of going for the Diamond F22, which is optimized for 2 meter (144Mhz) HAM radio, why not try Diamond's D-777?

The D-777 is optimized for civil and military airband. I think it's a newer offering. Specs are off the website selling it - second antenna down: http://www.wsplc.com/acatalog/Airband_antennas.html

Frequency bands 120/300MHz * Gain 3.4/5.5dBi * Type 5/8, 2x5/8 * Length 1.7m * Radial length 52cm * Mast size 30-62mm * Socket SO-239 * Wind velocity 60m/sec * Weight 1.0kg

Buy the D-777. and let us know how it is!  grin I been thinking about getting one, but I haven't found an online dealer in the US that sells it.  I'm sure any Diamond retailer could special order it though.
