Difference and Popularity in Aviation of.....
« on: April 16, 2006, 02:00:42 PM »
Hi, Happy Easter by the way -4/16/06,

I have a scanner, PRO-2054, wanting to do live feeds on this absoultely excellent ideal site. Feeds planned for KDTW Approach.

In upon getting my scanner I tuned in the correct frequency, it works fine... So I'll have it up as soon as I get a email back from the admin of LiveATC.Net.

ANYWAYS,  to get to my main purpose of this post;

What is the Difference and Useage/Popularity of Digital and Analog Scanners and if an Analog Scanner can recieve the same information a Digital Scanner can......?

Also if ones whom bought a similar scanner to mine^(radioshack PRO-2054), if they added a different antenna from the standard telescopeing antenna if it made a huge difference or not.....

-please respond to this email on any thought you might have...

     Thanks! and Happy Easter!

-Dave A. Lawrence

btw; Thanks so much for volenteers to provide feeds on this site and thanks to the LiveATC team for hosting the site!!!!!!!!

Hey Dave. I couldn't offer much on digi vs. analog. That's something I might have to look into further.

As for the scanner, I have a Pro-2041 and love it. It's been on non-stop for years and never let me down. I think about 99% of everyone will suggest you use an external antenna. The telescoping one could work well if you live next to the airport, however you will always bennefit from a better antenna. Personally, I live 8 miles from MSO and my scanner is in an equipment closet in my basement, so I have to use an antenna mounted on a 30 foot mast on top of my house, otherwise it's just too scratchy, and even with such a tall mast, sometimes it's still hard to understand some transmissions. An external antenna doesn't always have to be anything too elaborate. Some guys here simply put an antenna out on their deck or out a window and find it's satisfactory. Basically, whatever you need to do to make it sound as good as possible. I guess to answer your question, adding an external antenna made a huge difference for me. Without it, I wouldn't be feeding MSO right now.

I just want to say thank you for doing a DTW feed. I live about 60 miles northeast of DTW and can only get feeder freq. sometimes. Thank you!!! I have family that works for North West Airlines and I like to hear what going on. one question though are you gust doing the tower freq. too or gust approch.
