DVB-T dongle

I have purchased DvB-T dongle. when i tune it to 118.7 frequency that use in airport control tower, i hear some huge noise but i cant hear it when atc people talking through it. when they stopped talking again i hear the noise. i am using standard antenna came up with dongle. please can anybody explain why this happen? BTW airport is only 2KM away  sorry for may bad english

You need to enable squelch to get rid of the noise in between transmissions.

The standard antenna is in most cases not good enough. It is just total crap. Enable Squelch as dave say to remove the noise when they are not speaking and enable Digital Noise processing if you use SDR# to improve the sound, but you still need to upgrade to another antenna. Even an old TV antenna is much better, anything works:)
