For some reason I am unable to view the link you posted! I addition; is China Airlines, Virgin America, Air Tran air ways, and America West/ U.S Air Ways the only airlines which the call signs do not agree with the name of the airline?

There are hundreds of airlines all over the world where the call sign doesn't match the airline name - Nor does it have to.

Prime example - British Airways' callsign is Speedbird.

Over here there are many more -

Jet2 = Channex,
MyTravel Airways = Kestrel,
FlyBe = Jersey,
BA Regional flights operate under Shuttle or Flyer
Thomas Cook were formerly TopJet
TNT Cargo Flights use Quality
Europe Airpost uses Frenchpost
Maersk Star Air cargo (For UPS) uses Whitestar

Over your side of the world,

PanAM used to be Clipper,
Pinnacle who fly for Delta Connection apparently use Flagship,
Republic use Brickyard
Kalitta Cargo use Connie

......And the list goes on.

Check out the Wiki link. Very good resource should you hear something you're not familiar with!

The link posted by FLARTCCFAN seems to only recognise european callsigns - Entering Delta and Continental both came back with no match. Just a heads up!

America West merged with U.S. Airways several years ago, and one of the conditions in the merger was that the new HQ of the airline was to based in Tempe Az, and America West used the callsign of CACTUS to represent things growing in Az.

British Airways uses "Speedbird"
Atlas Air Cargo uses "Giant"
Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA-Delta Connection carrier) uses "Candler"
Aer Lingus uses "Shamrock"
Air Florida used to be "Palm"
Valujet used to be "Critter"

...just to name a few...

Below is a link to the best list I found. Just about any airline you can think of is on the list.

Atlantic Southeast uses "Acey" these days.

Here's a link to the FAA's contraction manual, it has all the callsigns and their telephony designators.

Callsigns that sound like they are nothing related to the airline is very common:

Skyservice = Skytour
Primaris = Whitecap
ExpressJet = Jetlink
National = Redrock
Canada 3000 = Elite
Continental Micronesia = Air Mike
Mesa = Air Shuttle
South African = Springbok

List goes on and on..

Continental Micronesia = Air Mike

Air Mike comes from Air Micronesia the airline's name when they originally began operations. Just a little GP, now back to your regularly scheduled programing.
