Edwards AFB Feed Possible?
« on: September 20, 2006, 07:05:28 PM »
I live in the high desert of California,  I will be buying the PRO 2052 and would like to provide a feed to liveATC.  I am 35 miles from Edwards AFB and would like to pick up there feeds, for when the shuttle lands as well as civilian traffic (centers, local airports etc...).  What is the possibility of picking up Edwards stuff and what antenna should I use, I was looking at the   I am new to scanning but not aviation.  I have line of sight to Edwards and surounding areas with no power lines near, I was looking at the Radio Shack Outdoor VHF-Hi/UHF Scanner Antenna Model: 20-176.  Will this do?  Am I asking too much :?
Thanks,

Alan

Alan-

A setup like that should do nicely.  Since it sounds like you are in the high desert and you say you have line of sight to Edwards, you should hear everything there pretty well, even at 35 miles.

The real questions...where are the transmitters for the Center sectors in that area?  I am not familiar with the Edwards operation but others here should be able to provide a clue...or maybe you know already.

I'm not sure where the transmitters are for Joshua in particular, but I do know that ZLA Low (134.65) has a transmitter in Barstow, so that will definitely get picked up.

http://www.freqofnature.com/index.php?m=ZLA%20Los%20Angeles should give you all the low and high sectors and frequencies for the entire sector.
