When the controller giving clearances tells a flight what its slot time is...  Is that the time the flight will push from the gate... or the time that it should be airborne?

Sorry if it's been asked before

Always Take-off time.
ATC slots are based on CTOT (calculted Take-off time). At Schiphol ATC clearance can be requested 20 min prior scheduled departure time or 35 min prior CTOT in case of a slottime. wink

Hello,

The slot time is a delay time. If any sector during your route has too many aircratfs at the same time (this is calculated by a computer) you'll get a slot time by the ATC. Slots times are given very often in busy areas like England or Central Europe.
Incoming trafic, e.g. from USA, Far East are not effected. It effects ONLY European departing traffic.
