Hello,

I'm attempting to track down the format(If any), that's used to announce the opening and closing of the business day, at various part-time ATC facilities. I suppose one for an unexpected closure of a 24/7 facility might be good too, although I'm guessing this widely varies from one place to another, and heavily depends on the circumstances, level of closure, etc.

If anyone recalls of the top of their head what they hear/heard, during an encounter with such an announcement, please either post here or send it to alex [at] pilotedge [dot] net.

Much appreciated!

Alex

Here's the one we used to use at KBVI (Beaver Falls, PA)

Opening announcement:
"Attention all aircraft in the vicinity of the Beaver County Airport, Beaver County Tower is now open.  Wind two six zero at one two, altimeter three zero one one.  Runway two eight in use.  Any aircraft requesting service contact the tower at this time."

Closing announcement:
"Attention all aircraft in the vicinity of the Beaver County Airport, Beaver County Tower is now closed.  Wind two six zero at one two, altimeter three zero one one.  For IFR service contact Pittsburgh approach control on one two four point eight five.  Traffic one mile west of the airport westbound a cessna 172, and on left downwind for runway two eight a piper cherokee.  All aircraft report your positions in the traffic pattern on this frequency.  Have a pleasant evening."

Hi Alex,

Burlington VT, KBTV Tower/Approach closes at midnight and opens at 0530 local.  Listen to the last 5-10 minutes of the 0430-0500Z and the 1000-1030Z archives for examples of the announcements.  Note that they will often stay open late if there is inbound traffic and will also give clearances before the opening.

"Attention all aircraft, air traffic control service has resumed in the Flint Class Charlie airspace. Any aircraft requiring assistance or vehicles on the runways, please advise."

"Attention all aircraft, class Charlie airspace services have terminated at Flint. Class Echo airspace now in effect. Runway 9/27 18/36 runway lights are on medium intensity. Runway 27 ILS is operational.  Any aircraft in need of assistance, please advise."

Though the tower officially closes at 11:30 PM local, the controllers stay for a little bit longer because some aircraft are on final right at 11:30 PM. The controllers kindly close the flight plans for those aircraft instead of making them call Cleveland Center to report landing.
