Fire Fighting Goes Heavy: DC-10 and B747 Air Tanker

I'm sure most of you have heard about the DC-10-10 N450AX (cn 46942/162) that has been converted into an air tanker for fire fighting. Below is the owners website. It has data on the airplane, pics, and vids. Pretty neat.

Just a little history on N450AX:
She was delivered to National Airlines as N69NA "Betty" in 06/75.
With the merger, she served in Pan Am colors for a short while as "Clipper Starlight".
Pan AM sold her to American, and she was re-registered N161AA.
She then went on to serve Hawaiian as N161AA "Kohoolawe - Forgotten Island".
After a short stay in the desert, she was picked up by Omni International, and re-registered as N450AX.
In 2003, Omni retired her to KVCV (Victorville, CA)
She was scheduled for scrapping, until she was saved from the cutters tourch by 10 Tanker Air Carrier.

Evergreen is also converting a B747-273C into a fire fighting air tanker.
