Another technical question when using Winamp, what is the method to display the actual freq broadcasting from the ZYZ feed?

This feature is a function of the scanner and scanning software the feeder is using, not the software that you are using to stream the feed.  I would surmise that the feeder for the ZYZ feed is not using a scanner or scanning software that provides this feature.

I just figured it out.  I monitored CYKF with Real Player and CZYZ for the YKF YTZ and YHM sectors and noticed the tags worked perfect there.  Thanks for the help guys :)

As long as a feeder has a scanner with alpha tags, the channel description can be sent along with the MP3 stream to our Icecast server.  We inject the METAR weather for each stream automatically using the same metadata update mechanism.

ScanGwinnett (an excellent scanning site) also has software that makes this pretty easy (alpha tag insertion):

Dave, very cool.   Does this utility require any other software to run (for example, Uniden's client software that controls the scanner) or can it simply be installed on the computer receiving the audio input from the scanner and running OddATC?

I am on the road now (and thus, didn't take too much time to investigate this link yet) but when I get home I would like to look into this for the SYR feed.

It only requires serproxy (included), which is a TCP/IP to serial port communications bridge.  And you have to hand-edit a couple of config files.  That's it.

One more quick question about this, Dave:  Do I need the special Uniden scanner-to-PC cable as well?  Last I looked these cables were about US$50 or so, as my Uniden didn't come with one.

Depends on the model.  This software only speaks serial, so if you have a DB-9 jack on the scanner then al you need is a serial cable.  If your PC doesn't have a serial port then you would need a USB to serial adaptor for your PC or you would need to buy and install a PCI serial card to get some serial ports.

Hope this helps.  The devil's in the details.  :-)

Definitely helps.  My feed is actually using an older Dell laptop dedicated to the task, which I believe has a 9-pin serial port.  I'll have to check the scanner, though.

I would really like to add this feature to the feed, as I think it is a very nice touch.  Thanks for the info...
