Quick noob question Re: posted Freq's

Hey all,
just found this great site, and will be getting my first scanner, soon. (Most likely the Uniden BC72XLT)

Anyway, I am researching my nearby airports and their Freq's, and was frustrated to find that one of them, (KJBC) that will be having an Air Show soon, lists a Tower Freq. of 233.7 on AirNav.com which I would not be able to hear on my little Uniden.

However on this site the Tower is listed at 118.6

Why the two different freq's?
Isn't 233.7 a military band?
Can I assume I will be able to hear the Airshow tower and air-to-air comms?

The 233.7 would be the military comm frequency and you won't be able to pick that up on your scanner.  The 118.6 is the civil frequency and as long as your scanner will support the air band, you'll be able to listen on that frequency.  They'll probably use the civil frequency for the airshow, but that is just my guess.

But yes military and civil frequencies are separate.

I'm also a newb, joined today as a matter of fact.... i bought a used Icom 2SRA that has an amazing scanner on it, it picks up all 200 meg and into 300 meg freq's,  i paid $100 on ebay and it needed a new battery that i got on a battery web site,     happy little listener now.......   most airshow stuff i have found will be on civilian band freqs but the coordinated acts like air teams will use what they call discreet freqs for ship to ship comms,  and yes they can be monitored once you find them,

If it is for an airshow, they'll have designated frequencies for use at the show. For example, at the California Capitol Airshow here at KMHR, they've had a defined set of frequencies that they use (for the past three years, it's been the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds VHF frequencies), so those should be able to be heard on a VHF scanner. When the show is over, they'll go back to the normal VHF frequencies.

What I suggest, is to check to see who is scheduled to be there, and cross that with what is listed at FreqOfNature. If it is one of those there, they'll have the frequencies that you can add to your scanner.
