"The Night Before Christmas"
« on: December 24, 2005, 06:23:27 PM »
This was made by a DAB controller by the name of Barb Walton, I think it's pretty darn good.

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the tower

Controllers were peering through windows a-shower

With snow flinging crystals on runways and ramps,

Creating white halos ‘round street signs and lamps.

Their children already asleep at the house

Tucked in and kissed by a flight-widowed spouse.

Dreaming of toys in their beds snug and warm

And wond’ring if Santa’d be stalled by the storm.

Down in the tracon green screens glared with white

The precip returns made the dark radars bright.

Yet brighter blips circled in patterns of light

Awaiting their sequence to land that night.

The airplanes were filled with holiday cheer

But the passengers also had begun to fear

That unless the snowstorm would start to abate

Their Christmas arrival would be somewhat late.

The center was feeding each fix with great care

As each stack moved downward the next plane was there.

They metered departures and built miles in trail

The airplanes were quickly lined up nose to tail.

They jiggled and juggled and vectored with skill;

Controllers would fight for each hole they could fill.

They all worked together, from sector to ground,

To bring all the passengers home safe and sound.

When suddenly High made such a great clatter

The sectors jumped up to see what was the matter.

High beckoned them over, and as they drew near

The sweep lit a sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.

The northerly target was still very far

But moving with speeds approaching a star’s.

Then over the frequency a great booming laugh

Called out to the tired controllers and staff.

“HO, HO, HO, to you, Center, this is Santa Claus!

I’m inbound all cities, and towns without pause!

The storm’s made me late but it can still be done

With your help through the traffic I’ll reach everyone!”

The word quickly spread over landline and call

That Santa was inbound and needed us all

From center to tracon to tower he passed

And visited homes, from the first to the last.

Then off to each center and tracon in turn

And all through the night each controller would earn

Santa’s thanks for the vectors around every town

While getting the rest of the folks safely down.

So it went ‘til the hour was just before dawn

Santa looked in the back and saw all was gone.

So he called one last time, flying north at first light,

“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
