Well at least the wheels are in motion and soon we will hear local KLAX.

Good news.

I just acquired a very cheap, ~2001, pentium celeron era low-profile desktop with 3 total slots for sound cards.  It's quite a jalopy, of course, with good ol' windows 2000 and an enormous 10 gigs of hard drive (hah), but its got a network card and a strong heart.  And lets put it this way:  I paid more for dinner for my sister and myself last night.

The wheels are rolling towards a solid set of LAX feeds, and i'm just crossing my fingers on getting strong reception.  we'll know more this weekend, after Peter's care package gets here.

You would be surprised what windows 2000 can do, remember 2000 was built for the enterprise environment. Even has NTFS. P.S. need help getting the zob algonac aria feed back up. I have issues with the new feed software, or if I can get a good antenna I am only about 10 miles from kdtw. (any donors?)

I run my server off windows 2000, as well as my feed computer  grin

The only catch will be if there are Win2000 sound card drivers available.  It was due to the fact that Win2000 was designed for a business environment and that it played second cousin to the larger Win98/XP market at the time that many companies never delivered Win2000 peripheral drivers.

good to hear the software will work.  As for the sound cards for windows 2000, i thought of that too, but with the low cost i don't mind trying a few out, plus i can aim for ones built for old 2000 based computers.

first things first: replacing the 32 (!) and 128 mb ram modules with double 256's... we're playing in the NFL here

My PC was built around 1995 it now has a P11 330Mhz CPU With 64megs of ram on Windows 98

The FEED BTW worked fine when it was running on Win95 with a 100Mhz Chip But I had a whole bunch of junk lying around so the new junk box ATC FEED was born smiley

I put the ugly thing behind my desk so I don't have to look at it lol  It has no keyboard or mouse (did that so my 3 yr son cant play with it anymore )

Its running a IC-PCR100 scanner with a Homebrew Quarter Wave Ground Plane Antenna
Cost
PC: Free (came from the trash)
Scanner: 75$ off of eBAY
Antenna: Less then 3.00$ parts from Home Depot
Coax: Free (again came from the trash TV coax 50ft)

Anyway the point here is that you dont need to spend big $$$$$$ to get a FEED up and running anything will do

And from the Top 30 list it looks like the (Old Junk Box) KLAS Feed is doing very well smiley

I cant wait to hear your KLAX FEED on the air and if you need anymore help at all please keep coming back to the forums.

You'll probably need a filter for the feed. I'll go out on a limb and say that it is likely that there are a few TV and FM Radio stations out there. You can search the threads for the Radio Shack version.

yea I'll look into the filter and other adjuncts once I get the initial scanner and antenna running, in order to see what I'm dealing with here, signal-wise.  I know I said I want to save money on this, but definitely not at the expense of having a low quality feed at such an important airport as LAX, so we'll see whats needed and go from there.

Peter's care package comes in Friday, but I've got a wedding to go to on Saturday.  So hopefully Sunday or thereabouts I can have everything set up and then work with Dave probably to get it streaming.

Yea, don't worry about a filter at this time. We'll have to listen to some stuff and see how the quality is. Some freqs (hell could be the ones no one cares about) could have bleed and the ones that everyone wants to listen to could come in crystal clear. Can't wait for the feed, this weekend will be a year since Ive been at LAX and I'm going through withdraw from not being able to eat at In-N-Out and not being able to photograph copious amounts of Asian heavy jets.

Yes!, bring on the KLAX local feed! I live in Santa Clarita and don't get to KLAX very often.

I got an old p11 running smooth wall as my router. Just needed an old computer I got for $20 at a trade show, two network cards (1 10/100 and a 1 10/100/1000), and a gigabit switch. So much better than my old wrt54g. Those old peaces of "Junk" can really be put to work.
