Incident a KCRW
« on: January 19, 2010, 05:37:46 PM »
Just read on airliners.net that an aircraft has overshot the runway after aborted takeoff.  I'm Listening to the live tower feed now...all the way from London UK.....reports are that passengers all safe.

You will understand how fortunate those people are when you go to KCRW on Google maps and check out the surrounding terrain.  There is nothing off the end of all the runways but a shear drop.

seems like the EMAS that they installed at the airport in Nov of 2008 did what it was installed to do.  It was 125 feet from going over the embankment.

Wow crazy.  I flew into CRW once and yeah those cliffs are STEEP.  Actually, they sheared off a mountainside when they built the airport and it was one of the largest movements of land in the world at the time (around WWII).
