iPhone and LiveATC

G'day all,

I couldn't "Reply" in Dave's FAQ page on the iPhone, so I'm givin' it a go here.

For those of you who have tried and have not been successful at monitoring LiveATC on your iPhone, try this:
I have "Tuner" which I got from the iTunes App Store (for around 4 or 5 bucks I think), and followed Dave's suggestion to tap into LiveATC.  Well, when I punched in the URL for LiveATC, I couldn't access any monitoring.  So I went at it in a roundabout way, but it worked.  So, here's my recipe -

With "Tuner" activated on your iPhone, go into "search", and hit "open".  Have LiveATC open on your laptop/desktop and bring up the ATC location you wanna listen to.  Have your iTunes on your computer open (I actually have playlist created called ATC in my iTunes).   Go into your playlist (it will be in the "music" library, under the genre "ATC" if you wanna do a search for it within iTunes), and drag a copy (under "name") onto your desktop.  Double click on the icon that appears on your desktop to open it.  It'll be a blank page, but the URL is what your after anyway.  For example:  for "ZLA - Los Angeles Center" ATC the URL is http://uk.liveatc.net:80/zla_misc; type the desired URL into the URL window on your iPhone within "Tuner".  Hit "done", and you'll see the Airport code come up with the current ATIS, and a stream of "LiveATC" from that radio comin' from your iPhone!!!!!

What I have done is saved all the ones I use (I'm a KVNY flyer, so I've saved all the SFO to SAN and in betweeners) within the bookmarks of "Tuner" and I just go to the bookmarks bar to bring up whichever one I want to listen to at the time.  It works on my iPhone on the EDGE network just fine, and of course when I'm in a wifi hotspot it's as good as good can get!!!  My iPhone is the first generation model, but I'm sure it works even better on the 3G iPhone.

I'm sure some of the "Tech-y" guys out there might know of a better way than my back door approach, but this way sure worked for me, and I hope it'll be helpful for some of the others of you out there!

Cheers,
Ray

Woops,

I just saw the other multi page thread on this same topic.  Sorry for duplicating.

For what it's worth, hopefully the lament terms instructions I put down might be beneficial to those who read it.

Again, sorry for duplicating the thread.

Cheers,
Ray
