Send donuts to N90.  Controllers love donuts.

It's not guaranteed that you will hold, it just depends on when you're going into MMU. If anything, just file direct to the field and see what they give you. Before anyone lays into me about filing direct in the NYC airspace, I know about it...been there quite a few times.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Coming from the west, CDW and MMU are easy to get into VFR.

Best bet is 1200. We hold every day at PHL on the JAIKE usually over MAZIE . Numerous factors play into that though, I.E....weather, volume, rwy configs. Us far as filling direct, unless your flying in the area past midnight, forget it. You can file direct but there is only certain routes and altitudes that will get you there through us.

PHL, better you to answer that than me. Most of my experiences in NY are around dusk, so maybe that's distorting it. When I fly there during the day, I just file the arrival and take it...I've only once flown the entire arrival (usually it gets shortened from my experiences).

I interned at a TRACON/ATCT, so I know what your saying...the computer is going to give you what it wants.

Yeah, definitely during the day, if you were on the JAIKE looking for a shortcut and check in with PHL over JAIKE descending to 13,000, I don't have a lot of options of short cutting you. First of all, off your right side of the Jaike paralleling you is another STAR into EWR. So I cant give you direct from that point. Second, PHL departures and arrival traffic are climbimg out underneath the JAIKE. So I could work you down through our arrivals and departures, with of course the approval of possibly  4 other sectors at PHL depending on traffic volume. And if it were to be done I'de have to get you under the traffic like I said descending for EWR. Ultimately you would have to get down to 4,000 by ARD. It goes without saying that before I would attempt any of it ,N90 has to give me  their blessing. So it's very labor intensive to say the least. Especially if the sector working a string of JAIKE's is combinded with our North Departure sector due to staffing. (Imagine that in today's FAA) Hope I didn't ramble.....

If your coming in from the south you can take the NJ Turnpike (warning toll road) to 78W....

If your coming in from the north you can take take 287  to 78....

Probably just as fast (slow) as flying the NY airspace!
