JFK Tower

Anything special going on? They're asking all aircraft if they can accept runway heading. Lots of aircraft shutting down. Weather? I heard something about problems with the fixes...

It's a complete mess.

A Jetblue maintenance just got told he's going to be waiting a while because there's over 200 aircraft on the field right now.

And from the FAA airport status info:

General Departure Delays: Due to TM Initiatives:SWAP, traffic is experiencing Gate Hold and Taxi delays between 3 hours and 1 minute and 3 hours and 15 minutes in length and increasing.

Can I ask what SWAP stands for?

I was listening to Ground at about 0100Z and it sounded pretty interesting to say the least!

I believe SWAP stands for "Severe Weather Action Plan" if I'm not mistaken.

Severe Weather Avoidance Plan, it's essentially a bunch of tactical reroutes around weather and often the implementation of (National) Playbook routes; along with other TMI's used to manage demand during periods of convective activity. Imagine the TMU at N90 and the Departure Director (DD) in the Pitt at ZNY coordinating every single departure and potentially a reroute (for fix balancing due to weather or sector volume) for EVERY departure from N90 and you get the general picture of what goes on during SWAP.

Very good listening last night, lots of tension between pilots and ground controllers - I listened until about midnight and had to go to bed.  Looked like weather was pretty bad - I was wondering if anyone caught the aborted takeoff, can't quite remember what time it was at, as I was switching from ground to tower just as they were asking for taxi instructions off the runway.

I believe it would be GMT - 4 hours - you should check around 10p Eastern time to start getting some action - it was good listening until midnight
