I to have never seen a "Safe Freq" i dont understand how it would be "safe" either when anyone can just use any old scanner and scan all know aviation freqs??? I know that at KPIT all VIPS (McCain, Obama, Bush...) contact controllers just as any otehr aircraft would.

they have some fancy thing that SAFE stands for...its not necessarily for it to be "safe"...

When they left the UN Assembly everything was pretty much normal: "AF1 Cleared for take off" "AF1 climb and maintain 7000 and contact NY Departure etc..."

I assume they were given the VHF frequency for the controller and not the UHF frequency?

After majoring in Air Traffic Management for four years I have never heard of VIPs being put on a SAFE frequency....

I love how someone who "majored in Air Traffic Management for four years" is getting in arguments with REAL controllers about air traffic control.  Man I love these forums!  Hold on, let me go get some popcorn, this should be fun to watch.

I wasn't trying to create an argument with you. That wasnt my intention at all. I didnt know that you were a controller. I have so much respect for controllers and what they do and I am hoping that within a couple of months I will be in a facility. I don't know everything and wasnt trying to come across like that. Last thing I would want to do on one of these forums is to offend someone. I know that I can learn a lot more and thats what I am trying to do. I just wasnt sure about the whole SAFE frequency and whether or not that was something new. By the way where are you a controller?

Don't worry, JD's bark is worse than his bite.  Actually, he's very knowledgable for a relative newb.  You will probably learn a lot from him when he's having a better day.

Wow that was kind of bitter wasn't it?  You'd think I worked at N90 or PHL by that post. As for my instructor chewing me out....ah, you know how those "old guys" are.
 
Oh and for the record, everytime I've seen AF1 fly into an airport he's been on standard VHF freqs, nothing special, just like a regular airliner or GA aircraft.
