Clearer JFK feed
« on: April 02, 2006, 04:07:28 PM »
Hello everyone, as some of you might know, I have been working with sean for the past few months to put together a new JFK feed. I live really close to the airport, so it is the ideal place for a crystal clear feed. We finally got everything setup, the antenna, the computer, everything is set to run 24/7.

The feed is crystal clear, everyone is amazed of the sound quality, 10x better then the current feed.

I am currently a student, so cash is really tight right now. I had planned on feeding 24/7 with my computer, but didnt know that electricity would cost so much. To stream for a entire month it woulc cost close to 30 dollars. I have no problem paying for the equipment, internet, and everything else, but I need help with the electrical costs.

I know JFK is the most popular feed on the site, and better sounding quality would make it better listening for everyone, thats why I am asking here first.

If anyone could help out with the costs of running, please contact me and I will give you a link to the feed so you can see how crystal clear it is. I would really like to get this stream online, but I need help with the running costs. I would really appreciate any help with this so we can make the feed even better. Thanks

How do you know it's gonna be 30 dollars? Do they have some kind of Electric Bill Generator out there that I don't know about. I know I had to leave my computer on for a month before I could decide if I had to shut it down everynight or keep it running. I have regularly kept it running 24/7 over the past 1.5 years and there wasn't that much change in the bill.

I want to start a NEW KJFK feed. I live 2000 feet away from the ILS, so the stream is clear as anything. I can give you a link to listen to individually, but I was told not to post it. Any help I get would be appreciated :D

Figure it out :) I pay 12 and a half cents per kilowatt per hour. I have a 320 watt computer, with a pentium 4 ht, 1 gig of ram, and a good fan running.

I used one of those online cost calculators, and thats what it told me. $27 per month.

It will sound better, it has in the past.  Something happened in the past few days to cause the quality to degrade a bit.  The feeder is working on correcting it, so expect it to get better.
