KDEN Audio Quality
« on: January 14, 2011, 10:33:35 PM »
Does anyone have an explanation as to what will cause the terrible audio quality from KDEN tower. It seems to be only from the ground based communications. Aircraft do not seem to be affected. It is also heard when I'm in the vicinity of DEN with a handheld scanner so I know it is not the local feed. This has had me stumped for quite a while and it doesn't seem to be going away. There must be a simple explanation for it that I'm just not familiar with. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Yes, it is simple.  The current feed receiver is not close enough to the airport.  We are working on a new receiver site for Denver.
