KORD departure frequency question ?
« on: December 04, 2006, 07:23:44 PM »
Just wondering if there are any Chicago area listeners here that know what frequency ORD departure uses initially for flights northbound routing out via BAE or PETTY. The published frequency for north/east departures is 125.000, but they actualy use a separate frequency for north but don't publish it on any charts for some reason. Thanks. DJ

North Departure - 134.4
Your published 25.0 frequency is just straight East Departure

depending on the arrival config at ORD east dept works east and north depts on 125.0,or north depts are worked at the north sat position 120.55. 134.4 is north depts but this is only open when traffic is very very heavy and east and north bags cant take the traffic.

Thanks for the info. Listening now (0730 CDT) I hear they are using 120.550. If it's not to much trouble any chance you can give me a brief rundown on how they configure the approach control frequencies with respect to traffic volume and runways in use ? Cheers. DJ

we have 2 vector position east(119.0) west(128.45)for the primary rwys and 2 feeder positions east(124.35) and west(135.07) and 2 handoff controllers,if we have a trip rwy that is worked by east feeder, but we do have a trip rwy position with its own handoff position, but it is isnt used much due to the fact that a trip rwy is restricted tp 20 ops an hour(the trip rwy is a dept rwy so the towers needs 6 miles at touchdown so they can get depts off)most of the time depending on winds and wx we have 5 configs that we use most of the time plain wierd(22r/27l/27r trip),plan x(4r/9r/9l trip),plan b(14r/22r/22l trip, and 9l/r and 27 l/r.handoff controller sit at scopes looking out 60 miles and hand wright the strips for the vector controller, and decied if they keep the a/c or give it to the other vector controller or the trip controller based on how busy the finals are to keep the traffic balanced on the rwys.theirs more to it than this but this sould give you a good idea how we operate.
