LiveATC Flyer - please post at your local FBO
« on: February 23, 2006, 09:49:37 AM »
With huge thanks to Jason Herman and Jim Davoli, we now have a flyer that you can print and post on the bulletin board at your local FBO, flying club, etc.  So please print one out and post the next time you head out to your local airport.  This will be a huge help in attracting more listeners, and hopefully feeders, to LiveATC.

We have some exciting new feeds coming up that are in or near beta, so stay tuned.

Download the flyer here:

Nice job, guys!

Awesome!

If I may offer a little constructive criticism....  Over half of the flyer is devoted to recruiting new feeders, but it's not clear that that's what it's talking about.

When I read "Your airport could appear on the list!", I think "Cool!  I'll check to see if my airport is on the list so I can listen to it over the Net."  Then it gives me a list of requirements which really confuses me.  I know that these are feeder reqs, but your average Joe is likely to misinterpret those as requirements to listen to LiveATC.

I suggest devoting no less than 3/4ths of the page to promoting listening to LiveATC, and the remaining to recruiting new feeders.  I suspect that people will be motivated to become feeders on their own after listening for a while.  And the feeder requirements are already on the web site.

I agree with Biff.   Since I already provide the feed for my local airport, hanging this flyer at the two FBOs there will only generate confusion given that the feed already exists.

Granted that these FBOs do serve transient pilots.  However, the majority of pilots who read the bulletin board there are locals.

I also would like to see the majority of the flyer devoted to drawing listeners, with only a blurb at the bottom looking for new recruits.

Another slick feature of the flyer would be to provide little tear-off tabs with "WWW.LIVEATC.NET" on them, similar to "FOR SALE" flyers with phone number tabs at the bottom.   I wonder how many unfamiliar visitors would mistaken the .NET with .COM?

Great suggestions...we'll on another rev.  I disagree that the majority should be dedicated to recruiting listeners.  Maybe half and half.  The flyer is mainly directed at listeners who are not feeders but who live near desirable feed sites.  It is more feeds that will attract more listeners...they go hand in hand.  So I think we'll strive for an even split.

Kepe the suggestions coming.

Thanks,
Dave

On the poster geared towards listening to the feeds at LiveATC, play up the multi-day archiving as a method for going back and listening to one's own exchanges.

Many general aviation pilots would be very interested in this feature of the site.

I have been making my own mini posters for several years (since before my stream was hosted here) for the local FBO and I always include the tear off strips at the bottom so people can take the URL home with them.  I also make a point to mention it to the instructors at the flight school too so they can tell their students.

I always emphasize that this is a great learning tool for students. When I was in flight training in the early 90s (pre internet) I would take a scanner and a voice activated tape recorder and leave them in my car while I flew. Then I would listen to how stupid I sounded on ATC when I got back. The archived MP3s on this site serve the same function and are a very valuable resource for students.

Looks good Dave! As I have said before, I might be able to get ILG up and am trying to figure it out. I'll see If I can get those around N57 and talk to some people, see if they want to spread the news.

Please be sure to keep printing and posting the flyer as much as possible.  If you're at Oshkosh, print a few off and post them at various bulletin boards at AirVenture.  You'll see me there posting them or handing them out to vendors.

Thanks!

I like it. :-D  But I agree that it is a little confusing.  It seems like that is what you need to just listen.  If you put what 71sbeetle said, it would make it less confusing.  Otherwise it looks great.  I will try to get one up at my local airport.  It is in a small town but it is busy, for it's size.
