liveATC.net iPhone app?
« on: October 15, 2008, 11:42:21 PM »
I have a iPhone, I was browsing through the Apple apps store and I came across Clear Channel Communications, so I notice that they had a application where you could listen to radio stations over your iPhone.

My suggestion is why doesn't liveatc.net make a app for the iphone so we can listen to
Tower feeds :-D

There are already two of them: Tuner, and FStream. Tuner is $3.99 USD, FStream is free. both handle m3u streaming, which is what the feeds are, over Icecast or Shoutcast. Give one of those a shot (I have both, and both work well).

We also continue to look at completing a more integrated iPhone app of our own, and/or integrating with some other popular pilot focused iPhone apps.

Stay tuned.

FStream works pretty good on my iphone, considering the apps free.

Yes, it certainly does...I believe it's the simplest and best streaming app out right now.

I just happened to get one. But I didn't want too, Because AT&T is always eves dropping. But it wasn't my choice to switch carriers, It's still a good phone I was amazed how many apps there were. I had just thought of the idea

You can try this:

Open Fstream
Favorites
Edit (top left)
Add new webradio
Name (what ever you want)
URL: http://74.200.85.149:80/kjfk_app_final
Format i put mp3
Bitrate 32 (not sure if this is right but it work on my phone

This is final vector, but if you go to the live feeds page you can use the 74.etc... number with any extension
to get the feed (located under "listen" in the feeds.

Hope this helps

Fine except never use IP addresses in the URLs.  Always use d.liveatc.net and no port number - one day soon anything else will fail to work.

e.g.,

http://d.liveatc.net/kjfk_twr

Simple.

The format and bitrate boxes will populate themselves once you connect to the feed. So you can leave those blank when entering a new feed.

I was doing a bit of digging to find out what it would take to be able to create a new application for the appstore. It looks like it requires approval from Apple to create an application for the iPod Touch and iPhone otherwise it will never be published. However I really like the idea of having a LiveATC application. Especially if it can grab all of the live feeds from the icecast server and give users one click access to the feeds that are currently online. This would make it very easy for end users as they wouldn't have to update their software as new areas become available.
