« on: January 26, 2008, 07:40:37 PM »
Hi folks,

I was just wondering does anyone know where i can download maps of different airfields so i can follow where the airplane are instructed to go.
For example JFK,BOSTON,DUBLIN and so on.

Any help would be grateful.

For US airports you can go here and type in either a full or partial name, or the airport code to pull up the desired airport:

http://www.airnav.com/airports/

Scroll down about half way and look to the right for "Airport Diagram."   Below the image of the airport diagram you will see a link that reads "Download PDF."  Click that link and it will either download the PDF file containing the airport diagram to a file or automatically open your PDF reader to display the diagram.  See here:

Umm.. did you click on the 'download PDF' link underneath the airport diagram? That should pull up the PDF in Adobe Acrobat, or whichever PDF reader you use. Those can be enlarged there.

To be sure of your intent, are you referring to the still pictures of airports AirNav sometimes will have for airports under the "Aerial Photo" section of AirNav?

If so, most times those photos are sent to AirNav by volunteer members of the site and I believe they are purposely reduced to make the page load faster.  I am not sure if the AirNav site operator would be responsive to a request for the original picture, but you may want to try.  You also may want to send him a request asking him to enhance his site by allowing a user to click on the photo to see the larger picture.  That would be a cool site enhancement.

Another idea is to search Airliners.net as their photos come in three of four larger sizes.  No idea if they have airport photos there but it is worth a look.

BogMan - You're welcome.  I meant to state that I am not aware of a comparable non-US site.  Hopefully someone else here with that info will chime in.

I just thought of something.  Both maps.google.com and maps.live.com (MS's mapping tool) offer the ability to zoom and then tilt the picture.   This might get you a pretty good airport shot, not just for US airports but for many around the world.  This is from MS's mapping tool:
