I've been having problems with it recently...can't put my finger on it.  For one, there's something wrong with the scanner.  When it's listening to a frequency, it will "skip" like on a CD every few seconds...didn't used to do that.  Could it be cause it's getting old and I've had in on for hours and hours?

Also it's been scratchy since I got back from IND on Sunday.  I'll unhook and rehook everything and restart the feed, hopefully fixing that.  If anyone can help with the problem with the actually scanner, let me know if you have any ideas.

I think I fixed the scratching by adjusting the cord for the A/C adapter.  When you referred to the IC chip, was that as a solution to the skipping?  If so, would you figure that'd be available somewhere like Radio shack and if so how much would you estimate it'd cost?  Thanks,

Matt

Usually when ICs burn out, they burn out for good.  They seldom degrade.

usuallly up front 30 dollar diagnosis fee at radio shack however the price of the repair is usually included (around 60 or so dollars) this was like 5 or 6 years ago so i can't imagine how much it would cost these days.

In your case, are you listening to the feed from LiveATC and hearing this skipping or are you hearing the problem when listening to the scanner directly?

In my short time doing this for the SYR feed, I have encountered a lot of different problems, including a form of "skipping" audio.  In my case, I have the scanner connected to the PC using the External Speaker Out from the scanner to the Microphone Input on the PC.

One time I accidentally had the volume on the scanner set too high in relation to the MIC-IN record level when the skipping began.  I concluded that the very high input level was overpowering the Stream Transcoder software's feed compression abilities.  Turning down both the scanner volume and the MIC-IN solved my skipping problem.

FWIW...   :)

This didn't have as much to do with Stream Transcoder as it did with overloading the Microphone input of the sound card.  The clipping likely occurred in analog before the voice was every digitized.  But that depends on your sound card and its dynamic range.

If your problem persits, here's another possibility I ran across.

My scanner has a "priority feature". After selecting a priority frequency the scanner will check that frequency every 2 seconds. If that frequency is active, it will break away from whatever other scanned frequency it has locked onto, and start broadcasting this priority frequency.

I noticed that every 2 seconds there was an ever so slight pause or slight audible "chirp", and chalked it up to this priority checking business.

Not sure if this could be related to your problem.

Looks like I had accidently hit the "priority" button somehow without realizing it.  I looked at the display screen and saw where it said "PRI" in the corner...never even noticed that I hit it.  So, I hit the button, and it's back to normal.  Good work Lexxx.

Thank you all for the help!!!

Looks like I had two problems...the Priority button was causing the skipping, but I also had some distortion and the scanner sometimes got "scratchy."  I figured out that a small metal pin that hold part of my antenna together was slightly bent, which was causing the scratching.  So I replaced the antenna with a better model and things sound better than ever!!

Thanks again for all your help...FYI Indy Center's on today and tomorrow (3/26-27).
