New MUAC/Eurocontrol radio
« on: September 16, 2015, 11:30:34 AM »
Thanks for setting up the new MUAC/Eurocontrol radio !

I see it is covering the Maastricht Jever Sector on "channel" 134.705. With 8.33kHz spacing the actual frequency used is not exactly the same as the "channel". I was just wondering if the radio is set on 134.705 or the correct frequency of 134.700 ?

If you had it set on 134.705 it would be off frequency by 5 kHz. I bring it up because it sort of sounds like you are receiving transmissions on another Maastricht sector that is farther away that operates on "channel" 134.710 (actual frequency 134.70833) better than what you are getting on this ? This could be explained because 134.705 is closer to 134.70833 than 134.700.

Depends on the sensitivety of the radio and bandwidth but I have noticed on some radios being off frequency by 5 KHz can make a difference. Might not be the case here but just wondering what frequency is actually set ?

Otherwise the setup is great the way it is. That airspace is very busy and as they adjust sector configuration to match traffic volume (and use frequency cross-coupling) it would be great if no other frequencies were added to the radio, IMHO.

Thanks again for the feed !

Thanks for the feedback.  We're in the midst of substantial expansion in the Netherlands.  And I am well aware of the 8.33 kHz channel spacing.  :-)

In some cases these will be conventional radios - in this case it is a scanner - and I am still trying to verify the frequency/channel that is actually programmed into the radio.  When that information is known then the frequency will be posted.

In other cases we will be using SDRs - software-defined radios - and we can tune to the precise frequency, regardless of spacing.  However, in some cases interference could appear from time to time due to adjacent channel bleed-over...that's life, as they say.  :-)

So rest assured that many other frequencies will come online, and the great majority of them will be standalone feeds on single frequencies.

Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for the info. Dave.

You probably already have a good chart but in case you don't or for anyone else interested ..

http://www.eurocontrol.int/sites/default/files/article/content/documents/muac/charts/102-0271_150917.pdf

The Jever and Jever High sectors are usually combined (and cross-coupled), but do split at times, and I've also heard them combine the Jever and Holstien sectors on the overnight shift.

Great to have more center feeds.

We use this chart and the other one with the UHF freq's.
