New South PHL approach frequency? Anyone know it?
« on: June 23, 2010, 04:07:30 PM »
Does anyone know the NEW south approach radio frequency to Philadelphia (PHL) (5k to 10k). It used to be 126.60, but has recently changed. Thanks if you can help.

Jack

Should be easy to pick up if any of the existing ones hands off to that sector.  I will reprogram the LiveATC system in PHL once we know what it is.  Has 126.6 been decommissioned or is this a temporary frequency change due to interference or something?

According to Foreflight the PHL approach frequency for 090-269 is 127.35 but no indication if this is temporary or permanent.

The pilots had been complaining of interference (on 126.6), I think that is why they changed it. I don't think it is 127.35. I watch a local parachute plane fly over my house and used to listen to them get clearance on 126.6. I don't hear them on 127.35. I tried E mailing the parachute outfit to get the clearance frequency, but they have not replied. Thanks for the input!!

RPD - You are the MAN! Thank you.

Dave, look for a donation to this great site, albeit small. I am a civil engineer in the land development (NO) business. Thanks.

AirNav and NavMonster both agree with the 127.35 frequency.  133.87 doesn't even sound like a valid VHF freq.

What is not valid about 133.87?  I guess AirNav and NavMonster know more than a controller who hands off aircraft to that sector daily.

Remarks like the ones cptbrw make are the reason you don't see real controllers on this board much anymore.

rpd is CORRECT! I checked 133.87, and it is the south approach. Thanks again rpd.

AirNav and similar sites don't have up to date information.  They are a good starting point, but they miss a good bit of frequency information.  Their source of data lags because frequently these frequency changes are not reported until months later, if ever.

The VHF aviation band is 118-136 MHz.  Any frequency within this range that confirms to the channel plan (spacing) is a valid frequency.

Sorry RPD but I was not aware you were a "real controller" (no way to tell from where I sit).  With a typical channel spacing of 25khz in this VHF range, 133.87 just didn't seem right.

Re: 133.87 - From what I  usually hear, this is an abbreviated way of saying 133.875.  Controllers usually leave off the "5" when
they give the frequency; i.e. 125.57 = 125.575, etc.
