New Yarmouth radio
« on: September 06, 2015, 10:47:43 AM »
Nice to see more radio's covering the Canadian Maritimes ! Thanks to whoever for providing this new feed !

Is this Yarmouth radio still a work in progress ? I notice reception seems to be rather poor. Antenna/interference issues ? How far from the RCAG transmitter in Wellington (N43 54 40 W066 06 06) is the radio located ?

It also seems like some sort of priority mode is set because the radio keeps cutting out every 2 seconds or so when transmissions are being heard ?

And curious where you are getting the sector and frequency information from ? You have 135.775 and 120.325 listed as "Wale" sector frequencies ? Both these frequencies are located in Stephenville, well out of range of Yarmouth.

Also listed is 132.950 as another "Wale" frequency. This is not listed in any official documents and I've never heard it being used in this area ? Typo ? (and being anal retentive, I think you mean "Whale" and "Tusky" ? (named after the waypoints)).

I'm not complaining, just some observations. The feed is certainly appreciated.

It would be great to have more feeds located in any of the following locations to cover Moncton and Gander Centers - Moncton, Sydney, Sept iles, Stephenville, St. John's, Gander, St. Anthony, Goose Bay. I will donate big money to greese the wheels to get any feeds going in these locations.

It is in a work in progress.  My fault for not checking the sector names - just did a quick copy/paste since I was in a hurry.

There is an outside antenna there - but not sure of location details except it is in the Yarmouth area.

Expect some improvements in the coming weeks as I work with the provider.  I already knew about the priority channel - that is for Yarmouth CTAF/UNICOM - and as the feed gets separated out during this process the need for priority will go away.

I am also working on additional feeds in many of those other areas - it takes time.  St. John's will be first with reception improvements and frequency separation.

Thanks,
Dave

132.950 is listed as having a transmitter in Logan, Labrador.  No debating that the frequency should probably be removed, but is that transmitter location current or dated?

That RCAG is located about 5 nautical miles north of the airport/town. The last time I was in the town of Yarmouth I was able to hear the controllers on all frequencies loud and clear (5/5), and that was just using a handheld scanner inside a house at ground level (no external antenna).

Sounds like interference might be an issue ? I can hear what sounds like pagers bleeding over ?

Now it sounds like it has been turned off ? Much better !

That listing is correct. It's just that it's around 600 nautical miles from Yarmouth.

Hey Guys, I am the new feed provider and thanks for the comments. I am a scanner newbie, but tech inclined person  :-D
I am a flightsimer and that's where my interest comes from. I am slowly editing the list of channels down, I had found them on line and have no idea or map of where they are.
My ant is on the outside of my house, its about 25ft up and we are on a hill. My location is in Ste. Anne Du Ruisseau which is about 8.6 air miles to Wellington.
I first did this to just see if I could get anything at all from my location  :-D

as long as everyone likes it and it works I will provide the feed its attached to a dedicated server.
keep letting me know how to improve or what to try and I will.

Today I am going to work on the ant connection to the radio that might help.

Shane

Hi Shane,

Thanks for providing the radio !

That is kinda far for good reception of the ground controllers. I suspect you would need a good setup to get strong reception from that distance. So what I've heard so far might not be that bad. Interesting to see if you will be able to improve it even more ?

In my opinion it would be better as well if any priority channels were turned off and any delay function's turned off too, if any are set ? Looking forward to listening in more detail when I have more time later in the week.

Cheers,

I think it will get better with a proper ant hookup once I find one, Dave and I are coming up with a list and plan to improve it :)
I was messing earlier with the ant and its jerry rigged right now to the radio
all priority's are off but I do have delays on all the channels I will experiment :)
