Anyone know about this new frequency 127.975?  Seems to be a ZBW high freq that's handing off to ZBW 125.575.  I've heard a few departures out of BOS on this freq plus a descending flight to JFK being handed off to 135.8.  I'm guessing 118.425 or 126.225 is being replaced...

This is a new frequency which is actually replacing the BOSOX47 secondary freq.  The previous alternate freq was 135.55, and 127.97 has been online for a month or so now.  Both of these are sited on the east side of the sector (Melrose area?) as opposed to the normal freqs which are out in Woodstock (near BDL) or on Mt. Tom.

These alternate freqs are used pretty infrequently but when there is a large area of weather south and west of Boston, using a transmitter closer to Boston makes a big difference as there is always a few departing a/c from Logan that have trouble receiving ZBW primary freqs when below 14,000ft.

I assumed the same thing Ron re: its a new freq for BOS46 (Hi) (126.22/118.42). ZBW has been using it for a few days now on that sector handling Kennedy arrivals and hi-level transitioning NAT traffic. Luckily they are "simulcasting" the ground side on 118.42 (Woodstock) so we can still hear the controllers as 126.22 out of Mt Tom is silent!

Is this a temporary freq for BOS46?

Maybe the guy feeding 118.425 could add 127.975 to his feed so we could hear both sides?? Hint hint...

Hoping that 127.97 is only temp for BOS46 (Hi)....and they'll go back to 126.22...that sector is a GEM to hear the ground-side!

I am in touch with the ZBW folks - that sector is still experimenting.  The new frequency ground station is reported to be Melrose, MA (unverified).  Waiting for the dust to settle before making any/many changes.
