Petwawa, Cobden and Ottawa sectors
« on: July 07, 2005, 09:38:46 AM »
Good day folks.  I had the opportunity of travelling through North Bay, then to Petawawa via Highway 17 to Ottawa last weekend.  I was amazed to hear pilots contacting the local mandatory/advisory freq.  Plus, I noticed Montreal manning the Ottawa TCU sectors.  In Ottawa, I noticed the same voice on the french ATIS.  I assume this is a recorded voice upon metar updates, similar to an AWOS.  I still can't get the english ATIS.  Nonetheless, I am surprised that off-peak periods in the Petawawa sector, the controller there monitored 3 freq's just like the guys up here look after 4 freq's in 2 sectors.  It still amazes me how much work these guys can handle.

I have that freq and tried to tune in to that while on the 417, but still could not receive it.  It's great listening to more Montreal ATC'ers, especially when they speak french.  It's a different variety.  I probably won't be heading down that way until next year, so I consider it fun while I was down there.

What were the frequencies that you monitored?

Local air traffic can be heard on 122.7, 122.8 from Petawawa to Ottawa.

I monitored the Pembroke CYTA 122.8 UNICOM and I think I also tuned in to the advisory 126.4 and Montreal Ctr on 135.2  On my way through that sector on Saturday, the controller had 3 frequencies on the repeater.  In Ottawa, only the frequency for the tower is operational, 118.8  The 120.1 I rarely listen to.  I could not receive full transmissions from the french ATIS which is also manually automated.  I also listened to the Arrival, Departure and the Ottawa Terminal freq's as well.
