Does anyone know what happened in PIT yesterday, they had a ground stop due to radar/frequencies problem?

A power outage.  The Uninterruptible Power Source was...uhh...interrupted.  Backup batteries dead.  This is the result of the Fix on Fail policy currently being utilized.  This will become more commonplace across the country as this policy remains in place.

Better check your next pay stub to be sure they didn't charge you leave for the time you were ATC Zero...

It's been relatively stable since the improvements were made in the mid 90's.  There have been a few burps but nothing like the problems experienced in 93-94.  PIT lost radar or comm once every 2 weeks for a 6 month period.  You probably remember the 20/20 expose.  The FAA called it a "huge success" that all the planes landed safely.   :-o

I hear that there is another power failure at PIT again on Tue march 27 at PIT. I remember coming home on US in 1995 from MCO, but we diverted to CMH due to a power failure that lasted like three hours. I guess they are coming back again???
