Replacement antenna for handheld scanner
« on: March 11, 2008, 01:33:19 PM »
Hi all -

I've just acquired a Maycom FR-100 handheld airband reciever from Ebay (So cheap it was rude not to!).

Having been across to EDI a couple of times it performs well when at the airport and from my home about 15miles away I can hear Tower faintly, and approach faintly (Well, I can make out most of whats said.)

Planes on approach come through clear as a bell because they fly within a couple of miles of the house but tower is faint.

My question is what would be the best SMA antenna to buy to improve reception as much as possible (if reception is likely to get better at all!)? At the moment, it's running the standard rubber antenna. Thought I'd ask the experts - Hope you can help!

Cheers

Hey again all.

Sorry for replying to my own post, but just wanted to add something!

I've heard Diamond antennae are quite good for Airband - But which one? I actually have no idea about the requirements of antennae for receiving airband. And suggestions/recommendations gratefully received!

This is the site I found with Diamond products. (I am in the UK, btw.)
