Delays Delays Delays
« on: August 18, 2007, 10:23:55 AM »
Took off from FLL at 12 Noon to be put in a Hold over richmond then a subsequent 40 minute hold over PALEO only to be diverted to BWI for a 2 hour stay then back to EWR and then another hold over SOMTO for 40 minutes only to be released for vectors then put back into a hold again for 20 more minutes because of a severe storm that put out a Tornado at EWR only to land at 7PM . 7 hours on a plane  WHEW !!!!!! Nice initiation rite I would say

Sounds like an exciting ride!  I'm surprised that you encountered such airborne holding, especially after diverting.  Most times you just take the delay on the ground.  Diverted aircraft are provided priority when traffic is resumed to the effected airport.  Things must have changed rapidly at EWR.  But you know what?  The alternative is to fly through or attempt a landing in severe weather.  I'll take the delay.

It's been an interesting summer travel season.

It certainly was interesting to listen to Boston Clearance/Ground yesterday. EWR closed, reopened, closed, reopened... JFK similar; reroutings abound... Delays to PHL and Washington DC.

Here's a great site to explore regarding delays.  http://www.fly.faa.gov/flyfaa/usmap.jsp  Place your cursor over each airport to get general information.  Click on the airport to get more in depth information.  Be sure to check the "Products," and "What's New" links.  Some very interesting tools.

Yes, w0x0f; combine that with the flightaware tracking and weather maps: http://flightaware.com/resources/weather_maps/ It is a bit milder today. 8-)
