Restrictive firewall support added
« on: June 06, 2005, 07:56:08 AM »
I've added support for listeners stuck behind corporate or other restrictive firewalls that do not allow connections outbound to TCP ports 8012 and 8010.
Please use these links onlyif you can't pick up the live streams from the normal links.

NOTE: This will not help you at all if you have non-network problems with your player software.  You need to download a player that supports streaming MP3 (and for one of the feeds, streaming Ogg Vorbis as well).

Thanks,
Dave

I'm glad this was added...it will allow more people to enjoy the feeds!  They just keep growing and growing!  :D

Dave, I happen to be at a non-home PC (wink, wink) that is behind a restrictive firewall with most ports closed so I decided to try these new, alternate streaming links.  Unfortunately, they do not work for me.

Thus, I downloaded an M3U file from one of these alternate links and opened it in a text editor.  In there, I see that the link inside still references port 8010.

Is this correct?   I would imagine that the point of these new links is to get away from using port 8010 since these ports are most likely blocked by most corporate firewalls.

What am I missing?  :)

Indeed there is an issue with this.  Apache isn't doing what it was supposed to.  I'll check into it and come up with a solution.

Looks like Icecast seems to be sending an HTTP redirect instead of a Location header...I'll see if I can find a fix for this.  There may not be an easy one.  I'll keep you posted.  Thanks for catching this Peter.

Thanks for catching this Peter.

You are welcome.  I think that providing alternate, "port-free" streaming links is an excellent idea on your part and I hope that you are able to find a solution.

Try again...the catch is that you'll have to copy and paste the URL into your media player, at least for now.  It's not possible to provide a clickable link at this time.

One other note...many corporate firewalls are now filtering content as well as network ports.  Many of them are not allowing streaming media, regardless of port number.  YMMV.

Good Afternoon...

I have been looking around for the Restrictive firewall links and I have not found them.

Am I missing something?

They're right there on the pages that list the feeds.  You have to copy and paste the link to your media player, though.

Basically, instead of:   http://audio.liveatc.net:8012/bos_app_dep.m3u
you use: http://audio.liveatc.net/bos_app_dep
