The main runway at Buffalo 23/05 will reopen next week after being resurfaced and made longer. I have been hearing alot of communications between tower and an aircraft with a call sign of "FLIGHTCHECK". I think this an FAA aircraft that checks glideslope and runway lights ect ect.  Anybody have any info on these type of flights? Just wondering.

Here's a neat page about 'Flight Inspection' history (Flight Check): http://www.naco.faa.gov/index.asp?xml=fioo/fihistory

FINFO (Flight Inspection National Field Office) Flight Inspection Aircraft flight check thousands of navaids and instrument procedures, including ILS, MLS, VOR, DME, TACAN, GPS, NDB, various radars, and airport lighting for the FAA.

If you want any more information, let me know.  I have a friend who flies a KingAir 300 for FAA Flight Check in Atlantic City.

In canada the inspector guys have the call sign "NavCan" (for NavCanada)

I think last week a NavCan helicopter was in CZYZ doing some pretty crazy stuff. They were doing some testing for an NDB...
