Spirit Airlines MD-80 N808NK Gets First Class Make-over
« on: December 27, 2009, 08:30:42 PM »
Former Spirit Airlines MD-82 N808NK (cn 49504/1363) is now the new private jet for the NBA team Detroit Pistons. The renovation of the airplane tool three years and cost in the neighborhood of 7 million. The attached article says the airplane is an MD-83, but it is not, it is an MD-82. There is supposed to be a video tour on the site, but it does not seem to be working at this time...

I have attached some pics of the bird below. First is the aircraft with original employer, China Eastern Airlines, where she served as B-2120, and with Spirit Airlines in the digital scheme as N808NK. Also for good measure, the current Roundball One, DC-9-30 N880DP.

As of now, no good pics of the the new bird are out yet...

While on the subject of sports teams airplanes, here is my favorite, DC-9-51 N628RW (cn 47733/862), the team airplane for the NHL Detroit Redwings and the MLB Detroit Tigers. This aircraft is operated by Olympia Aviation, and is owned by the Ilitch Family, who owns both the Redwings and Tigers, as well as the Little Caesars Pizza Franchise, as noted by the Little Caesars Pizza Logo on the tail. This aircraft is former Eastern and TWA as N412EA.

**UPDATE**

The video tour is now working on the article I linked to in my first post. Pretty cool!  8-)
