Good place to watch and scan at LAX?

Can someone suggest a good place to watch and scan at LAX?  I'd like to make a trip up there sometime soon.  Must be publicly accessible.

A favorite of mine is the In-N-Out Burger at the approach end of 24R. http://www.in-n-out.com/location_details.asp?id=117
There is a nice grassy park across the street, and if it gets a little chilly you can just hang out in your car. If you want to get a bite to eat, there is the In-N-Out Burger right there.

Tyketto listed some great suggestions. As I recall, Sandpiper is in a hilly area by the ocean and gives a view looking down at the runways. I haven't been there since the late 70's.

Sandpiper has been closed for quite some time now. Used to be a great place to spot, when arrivals would change to eastbound at or around midnight. With the A/C low across the water, the landing lights shine down on the waves, and you could see fish darting around. It was pretty cool.

And it was one heck of a make out spot ,too  :-D

Now days, you'll have to walk down to the beach.

Imperial Hill of course is a classic spot, with benches and even a spotting glass to use( I think it's still there)
From that spot you get almost an entire view of the south complex, and the western portion of the aiport.
