Usb soundcard Raspberry Pi
« on: February 10, 2016, 05:16:04 AM »
I use a DELTACO USB-soundcard with Raspberrry Pi to feed Liveatc. But there is a backround noise all the time.
I have tried an other usb-soundcard, but the volume was not good.
What type of soundcard do you use?

This one has worked very well: http://www.amazon.com/Optimal-Shop-Channel-External-Surround/dp/B00Q4WQ7XW

It has a Line Input, which is what you want. With a Mic input you need to take steps to avoid overloading the mic input with the speaker output of your scanner - very careful volume adjustments that can and will change, or an attenuating audio cable. It's easier (and cheaper in the long run) to just spend $15 for a USB sound device instead of $1.00.  :-)

Those cheap USB sound dongles do lure one in because they are so cheap. They are cheap for a reason. I bought a batch of those a long time ago and had something like a 20% total failure rate over time.

Is it compatible with linux? It just says External Sound Audio Card For PC Laptop OS support: win98 / XP / 2000 / Vista / Win7/8.

All USB sound devices are compatible with Linux - it has a generic driver that works with all of them.

We use these on Linux all the time.

I ordered a USB 6 Channel External Sound Card 5.1 Surround Adapter Audio S/PDIF, and today I got it.
And it works fine, no background noise.
By the way, I use the mic in, did not get it work with line in. But it is a lot better now than with a use sound card

To get it to work with the Line Input use alsamixer to select Line instead of Mic.
