Which one of the following is you? Tell us about yourself!
« on: January 05, 2005, 10:51:48 AM »
We'd like to get an idea of what careers or hobbies our listeners have.  What attracted you to this site and what might have caused you to be interested in listening to air traffic control communications?

We realize some of you may fall into multiple categories - just select the one you feel describes you best.

Thanks, and welcome to LiveATC.net!  I hope you enjoy the site.

I got interested through flight sims, then a real world flight at the controls, with a pro pliot of course. Then I found liveatc.net and became extremely interested.

Who know I still might become a pilot or ATC controller, after all I got my whole life ahead of me.  :)

Both my dad and grandfather are pilots so I've been learning for a long time.

Thanks for everything, Dave.

I am a Student Pilot and fly at KSCH Class D airport. I live about 1 SM from KALB class C airport Runways 1/19 and 10/28. I feed KALB.
Many Student Pilots fly at uncontrolled airports and may not even be withen listening range of a controlled airport. ATC Live is a great learning tool for them and feeding KALB is just a way for me to give back a little something to help out the aviation community.  :D

I'm a Private Pilot just a few weeks from taking my practical Instrument test... I listen to live ATC (apart from the fun it is) to become more comfortable, etc., with the language of ATC, especially since I do most of my flight training in an area that requires little ATC contact.

Outstanding site Dave!

I've cast my vote and am not surprised to see the number of VATSIM people here.

I'm sure you've been thanked before, but as this is my first post I'd like to thank you as well.

I'll be dropping in quite often I'm sure.

I've been a private pilot for 2.5 years.  Been interested in flying all my life but never did anything about it until 4 years ago.  I love this site.  I live in SoCal so I was excited to see the feed with so many frequencies.  I got a NAV/COM for Christmas and carry it with me everywhere.  Both have helped my radio skills greatly.  Thanks for a great site!!!

I clicked on Pilot Hobbyist and am very active with Flightsim, but the Ham Radio option also applies to me (KA9PHI).
BTW, new here.  This site is great :)

My ATC monitoring interest
« Reply #16 on: June 23, 2005, 08:15:26 AM »
My interest in monitoring ATC is hearing the different voices and how the different controllers instruct pilots to navigate.  I also am still trying to understand how controllers manage to combine two freq's and 2 separate sectors during off peak periods and split their operations during their local peak periods.  Plus, I don't like the response time from our local flight service guys compared to those from North Bay.  --Jon

Hi

I have been listening to this site for some time now and it has become an invaluable tool in my student pilot training. I am constantly listening to my home airport KFRG (Farmingdale Republic) at work and home.

Listening has helped me greatly in turning a wekaness (talking to ATC) to a strength. I also like to play back the archives to see how I sound.

I tell everyone to use this site as a great learning tool.

Keep up the great work!!

I am glad to see that there are a lot of Student pilots listening. Its one good way to get good at communications. There are more students voting than Commercials and ATPs.

I voted Communications hobbyist because that most closely matches the roots of my listening habit, but it's really the opposite. A long time ago I discovered a spot just beyond the end of 28R at PIT that's ideal for watching air traffic. To enhance the experience, I bought a cheapo Radio Shack radio that had AM, FM, and air band, but it had to be tuned manually. The next step was a scanner.

Along the way, I've flown as an observer with the Civil Air Patrol, done a lot of $100 hamburger flights with a friend that owns a Cessna Cardinal, and married a controller, (so now it's part of dinner table discussion every day here). Student pilot has always been one of those things that's just out of reach, and stiil is.

But truthfully, my initial interest in ATC was to actually *listen* to ATC...
