Its not the Captain or First-Officer, but rather the Pilot flying (PF) and the Pilot not flying (PNF). The PNF will always be the one working the radios.

Usually the PNF or Pilot Not Flying. This can either be the Captain or F.O. depending on the 'leg' and if they're deadlegging somewhere. Many circumstances enclose this question, but the pilot not flying the aircraft most of the time communicates on the radios (so the PF [pilot flying] can concentrate most on flying the aircraft).

Well, if you haven't been there http://www.jetcareers.com is a site founded and run by a Delta Air Lines MD-88/90 pilot, Doug Taylor. He has a piece called a day in the life of a major airline pilot he wrote. It explains some of the things the two pilots go through in their week of flying, which inludes who gets what duties during which legs. It taught me alot when I first read it. If you like forums, they've got a nice system with lots of resources. Many pilots post everyday. They've got lots of career advice and other helpful resources. Neat stuff.
