setting up a stream
« on: July 30, 2008, 07:01:09 AM »
Hello

I am going to be setting up a stream for YMML, just awaiting a email back from Dave. Just have a quistain, I plan to be using a Celeron 733 with 196meg ram running windows xp

Its just because I purchased it for $100 just wondering if the server software would run it.

I am thinking about paying another $100 and get a P4 let me know :)

That should run fine, no worries.  We'll try to get back to you as soon as we can.  Day jobs are keeping both of us quite busy.

Best,
Jason

No problem.  My feed is running off an Intel PIII 500MHz Dell Laptop (circa 2000) with 256MB RAM, also running XP.

If your laptop is only serving the feed and is not being used otherwise, I would recommend stepping through this page to tune up XP and remove some of the bloat that certainly will not be needed on the laptop:

http://home.comcast.net/~SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html

Oh, and if you are interested in a free remote desktop utility that will allow you to connect to your feed laptop from anywhere on the Internet for feed support or laptop maintenance, I recommend LogMeIn, at:   https://secure.logmein.com/

I have been using this utility for at least a year now, as it allows me to connect to my feed laptop, my home desktop, and even my father-in-law's computer for occasional support, all while away.
