Lots of missed approaches + ILS 13L JFK
« on: April 02, 2009, 07:06:07 PM »
Hi everybody,
I've been listening to the KJFK feeds for the past hour, and it's been quite interesting to listen to all the missed approaches off the VOR 13L approach at KJFK. Apparently there were low ceilings of clouds, preventing many pilots from getting a visual contact of the field, and in turn causing them to go around. Interestingly enough, they are now using the ILS 13L; actually it's the first time I've heard them use the ILS for that particular runway, and what makes it even more interesting is the fact that there's a lot of inbound and outbound traffic both at KEWR as well as at KLGA. I don't have any clue on how to edit clips or anything like that, but if anyone's interested in listening to the recordings, just go the feed archives and listen to the 21.30-22.00Z (april 2nd) and from there on.

Also, it's pretty neat to watch the radar on passur.com whilst listening to the feed.
Just thought I'd share this info if anyone was interested. (sorry for not being able to post a clip)

And Dave, thank you for this wonderful site :-)

Kind regards
Alex

LGA was also using the seldom used ILS 13 for a while this evening; I live about 2 nm west of the FAF.

Regarding Passur do they no longer have the individual user versions, or did they just move the link on their page?.......Also,listening at the moment and they earlier they were using the ILS during the GS and GDP this morning.

As some of you may realize from my C/S, I work for an airline at KIAD (Dulles Int'l), There were many of those today all up and down the NE corridor.

Looks like the same weather currently at KJFK as yesterday.  RVR is running 1200-1800'.  Numerous mis-approaches on the ILS 13L.

sounds like some were lined up with the interstate and some lined up with the wrong runway, that's what I was hearing - i did notice an airfrance that lined up with the hwy instead and had to go around.

there has been at least 6 missed approaches in the last 10 minutes (20z) landing on runway 13L due to low ceilings.  Current visibilty is 2 1/2 miles from the metar.  Two pilots have asked for a 22 or 4 approach.  But with 4L/22R closed it might be hard.
