FYI:

NAV CANADA, the country's provider of civil air navigation services, recently conducted an aeronautical study that evaluated the requirement for High Frequency (HF) communications facilities.

HF communications facilities are primarily used for the provision of flight information service en route. These facilities were initially established to support communications in remote areas beyond practical Very High Frequency (VHF) coverage. The implementation of the new Edmonton Area Control Center (ACC) Peripheral (PAL) VHF communication facilities throughout the north and improvements to Remote Communications Outlet (RCO) coverage have resulted in a substantial decrease in contacts on ICAO HF International Air frequencies at Churchill, MB and Hall Beach, NU and the 3 HF frequencies (2971, 4675 and 8891) at Churchill, MB.
