Hello all,
I will be starting on the Commercial rating soon. I will be doing it on a twin engine. Any helpful tips someone can give me (during training, maneuvers, practical, written, etc...)?

Is it your initial Multi-engine rating as well?

Then the commercial won't be that bad....  Take your time, the most important part of being a "professional" is being ready for everything, that especially includes setting up your maneuvers.  Hopefully you don't have 25kt crosswinds!  As for the written and practical, if you have your instrument rating, remember how to use all your private pilot calculations (because as a whole instrument pilots are lazy, myself chief among them) because that was the most difficult thing for me.  Good luck, and hopefully you don't have a brake lock up on you like I did on the checkride!!!

That may be fun doing Chandells and lazy 8's in a twin.

By the way, all my students said that the written was easy, a big review. The last one got a 99%!

Good Luck!

Keep us advised.

You don't have to do either chandelles or lazy 8's for a multi-commercial.  VMC demo is the big one if I remember correctly

I never thought about that.
Here's a question that should come up. If you have a multi-commercial rating, how do you get a CFI for single engine? I would think that most everyone needs a CFI to build time, and I wouldn't think that you could get hired as a multi indtructor only.
Your turn...

You need a single commercial add-on.  I did my multi-comm as both my initial multi-engine and commercial at the same time...  long friggin' checkride when you add the instrument part on, and the fact the flight school was trying to get their part 141 stuff done so I had the feds in the plane as well, on a 100+ degree day.  Talk about adding a bit of stress to an already stressful time.  All in all I think doing your commercial in a multi is the way to go, the single add on takes absolutely no time or effort.

Guess I'm just 'old school' one foot in front of the other.

If it works for you, great. I'm just not sure it is the best way, training wise.

I know people that did their CFII first as it was a more structured check ride, and then went back and did their CFI. So I guess it all boils down to what works best for you.

Yeah...........Um. OK. I know I still have my notes around here somewhere.....I just downloaded a Gleim program. Woefully out of practice with a few things.

VMC Demo. I feel pretty good about those. I am also very proud of my steep turns, barely any altitude loss and hit all the proper settings, so I am wondering that if those are just the start of all the other maneuvers, then it shouldn't be that hard to me?Huh??

That is what I figured. Plus the price to go ahead and do it this way at the school seems better than trying to get the multi add on later.

Thanks for the info. I will certainly keep everyone posted because as soon as I pass the checkride, even people who have never even seen or talked to me before will know it because I will be so happy and telling everyone all about it. grin
