I'm working on designing a marketing piece for a local flight school which will be given to high school students, prospective students from the community and anywhere else they run into people. Not necessarily people with an aviation background, but who might be interested in learning to fly.

I came up with the idea of a top ten list of reasons why YOU should learn to fly, and the idea is to take down some barriers such as A) Flying is too hard, B) Flying is for other people, but not for me, C) I wouldn't even know how to go about starting, etc.

So everyone is comfortable with a top ten list. Everyone is comfortable with a little humor, even when it's delivering good, solid factual knowledge. What I need now are 10 reasons YOU CAN LEARN TO FLY!

Help! (And I'm sorry if this is way off topic for here, but when I thought about where I could go to find people qualified to understand this and help me, the LiveATC forum was the only place that came to mind.)

Here's what I have, so far:

10. Flying makes your Christmas letters far more interesting.

9. Only 6% of pilots are women! Female pilots are eager to welcome more ladies to the skies.

8. The world becomes your neighborhood - you'll have adventures not possible on the ground!

7. Your pilot's license is a stepping stone to several career opportunities.

6. Flying involves the entire family.

5. Think it's too expensive? Think again! Ask us how anyone can afford to learn.

High school students, and the general public - people who might be interested in flying, but be under the false impression that it's hard to achieve, or simply unattainable.

The first place these will be distributed is at a Chamber of Commerce event next week, with approximately 100 other business owners/Chamber members touring this flight school, which is also a member of the Chamber.

Flying is much more relaxing than driving.

You become a member of a "club" with interesting people, great stories, and its own culture.

"Hey pretty thing, wanna go flying?" works 60% of the time, every time. (This one was just for fun.)

Another common misconception you could clear up is the sheer number of airports. Most people think of the airports they travel from, but don't realize they likely have one very close.

This reminded me of the book about Moondog's flight school (whatever the title is) where he had a $49 guaranteed PPL and guaranteed solo within 4 hours instruction. He was very desperate for students. Needless to say, a student that had been told three times he wasn't cut out wrecked a Piper Cub.
